Long-Term Study Abroad
Montgomery College students study abroad full-time to earn academic credits that are transferrable to Montgomery College and four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
As a member of the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) new window, MC can send students to any one of 52 accredited college programs in 30 countries around the world. Any student that wants to study abroad at an institution outside of this consortium may only select an institution within one of these accepted consortiums: American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) new window, Center for International Studies (CIS Abroad) new window, Education First (EF) new window, or International Studies Abroad (ISA) new window.
Montgomery College students need to begin the process for long-term study abroad at least 6 to 12 months in advance. This enables students to make academic plans in collaboration with an academic advisor, meet with study abroad co-coordinators, submit their application to the long-term study abroad partner program, and ensure travel documents are received.
Montgomery College’s study abroad office is currently working with students interested in long-term study abroad for fall 2027 and/or spring 2028.
Below is a recommended timeline for students pursuing long-term study abroad in spring semesters:
- By August 1: Meet with study abroad advisor and discuss programs and locations. Seek letters of recommendation from faculty.
- By August 10: Meet with long-term study abroad partner representative and confirm course offerings for the semester of interest.
- By August 20: Meet with MC academic advisor to seek approval for courses of interest at the campus abroad.
- By September 10: Submit completed application to MC Study Abroad program. Application will be sent to transcript evaluator for final approval of course transfer.
- By program partner deadline: Submit application to program partner.

- By program partner deadline: Submit application to program partner.
The long-term study abroad approval process includes advising related to study abroad criteria, course selections, transcript evaluation, and registration for STBR 200.
Post-program conferences are required of returning students for additional instruction, cultural re-acclimation, transcript alterations, and potential engagement in college-wide programs and service-learning activities.
