March 10, 2025

A few days of springlike weather have raised the energy around the College, bringing new opportunities for students to connect, support each other, and push toward their academic goals. It’s truly inspiring to see these relationships flourish and come alive in all our spaces!

Three Students Win Prestigious Awards

Congratulations to MC students Taian Chen, Olatomiwa Ogunkoya, and Eman Saqib on earning top national honors from Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the community college honors society. Chen and Ogunkoya are among just 22 students nationwide selected as 2025 Hites Transfer Scholars, PTK’s most prestigious award, receiving $7,500 each. Saqib has been named a 2025 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar, earning a $1,250 scholarship. These competitive awards recognize their outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service. I am incredibly proud and inspired by these students’ well-deserved recognition.

Exploring Innovation in Personalized Medicine

Join me for an exciting visit to the Germantown Innovation Center, a hub for groundbreaking life sciences startups at the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology (PIC MC). In this episode of Bow Tie Chatsnew window, I talk with Dr. Sherry Dadgar, CEO of Personalized Medicine Care Diagnostics, about how genetic profiling is transforming health care—shifting from reactive to proactive treatment while lowering costs. Dr. Dadgar highlights how the Germantown Innovation Center fosters collaboration that turns ideas into reality. It’s inspiring to see the future of medicine being shaped right here at MC!
