Three Montgomery College students, Taian Chen, Olatomiwa Ogunkoya, and Eman Saqib have been recognized for their academic excellence and leadership through prestigious scholarships awarded by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.
Chen and Ogunkoya have been selected as 2025 Hites Transfer Scholars, an honor given to only 22 students nationwide. This scholarship, the most prestigious offered by PTK, awards $7,500 to each recipient. Scholars were chosen from nearly 2,800 applicants based on their academic achievement, leadership, and community engagement. PTK will recognize the 2025 Hites Scholars on stage during the Parade of Scholars at PTK Catalyst, the annual convention in April in Kansas City, Missouri.
Saqib has been named a 2025 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. This recognition is based on scores from the All-USA Academic Team competition, which had nearly 2,100 applicants this year and is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and administered by PTK. Coca-Cola Silver Scholars are recognized in All-State Academic Team Recognition ceremonies across 37 states.
Phi Theta Kappa is the first honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 4.3 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 countries, with approximately 240,000 active members in the nation’s colleges.
