Community Health Worker Certification
Montgomery College offers a Maryland State Department of Health new window approved Community Health Worker CHW Certification. This certificate combines four 3-credit Health Science courses (HLTH 105, HLTH 160, HLTH 225, and HLTH 298) along with a 1-credit 40-hour practicum experiential learning course. At completion of this program, the participants will be qualified to apply for a Maryland State Community Health Worker Certification. The program is based on the Germantown Campus but can be completed mostly virtually!

5 steps to earn your way to a Community Health Worker Certification:
1. Register as a MC student.
Students should register in the Community Health Program 186A
2. Search the Class Schedule new window to choose in-person or virtual options
CHW certification course requirements:
- HLTH 105 new window: Personal and Community Health (3 credits)
- HLTH 160 new window: The Science and Theory of Health (3 credits)
- HLTH 225 new window: Introduction to Health Behaviors (3 credits)
- HLTH 298 new window: Global Health Capstone (3 credits)
- Only offered in the Spring semesters
- Prerequisites: HLTH160 and HLTH225
- HLTH 297: 40-hour practicum (1 credit)
- Only offered in the Spring semesters
- Prerequisites: HLTH160 and HLTH225; Corequisite: HLTH298
