GALLERY SCHEDULE

The Germantown Art Department offers a set of foundational “gateway” courses that prepare students for further study in our art degree pathways.

Students pursuing the AA in Art, AFA in Studio Art, AFA in Graphic Design, or AFA in Animation will begin their coursework at the Germantown campus and complete their studio requirements at the Rockville and/or Takoma Park–Silver Spring campuses.

Our studio offerings include Introduction to Drawing (ARTT 100), Introduction to 2D Design (ARTT 102), Digital Tools for the Visual Artist (GDES 116), Digital Photography (ARTT 112), and Introduction to Animation (GDES 140). We also regularly offer both Art History survey courses—Art History: Ancient to 1400 (ARTT 200) and Art History: 1400 to Present (ARTT 201)—as well as Art Appreciation (ARTT 127), a lecture-format course designed for non-art majors.

Beyond the classroom, the department actively enriches campus life through a variety of cocurricular programs, including the Student Art Club, student and faculty exhibitions, ArtWalk, visiting artist talks, and other creative events.

Our faculty are accomplished practitioners and dedicated educators who support students’ artistic growth, provide guidance outside of class, and assist with transfer preparation, portfolio development, and job searches.

We are a committed and expanding department grounded in the belief that education in the arts is essential to personal development, creative confidence, and lifelong success.
